BLOG: Rio Americano Cross Country Girls Advance to State Meet

Rio Americano senior Macaulay Porter and junior Elizabeth Hutchison lead varsity girls team to 3rd place finish at Sac-Joaquin Section Championships; team qualifies for State Meet

The Rio Americano High School boys and girls cross country teams ran in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 3 Championships held at Folsom High School on November 10, 2012, and the varsity girls captured the 3rd and final spot to advance to the state meet, narrowly beating out El Dorado High School by 3 points.

 Senior Macaulay Porter and junior Elizabeth Hutchison captured all-section honors, and their whole team, including Porter and Hutchison, as well as juniors Ariel Young and Audry Nishi, sophomore Paige Gowan, and freshmen Alyssa Evans and Lucy Giles received medals.

 The varsity girls team will run in the state cross country championships, which will be held on November 24, 2012 at Woodward Park in Fresno, competing in the Division 3 girls race at 11:10 am.

 Mira Loma sophomore Kaitlyn Liu also earned-all section honors and medaled, as did El Camino High School senior Kandace Compton, who also qualified as an individual competitor for the state meet.

 The varsity boys came in 6th place (improving on their previous 9th place finish at the Sub-section meet the week prior) with senior George Halvorsen and junior Kenji Anzai earning all-section honors and medaling.

 Junior Ilana Weisberg and sophomore Blythe Nishi also medaled in the JV girls race, and freshman Chris Harris medaled in the freshman boys race.
