A Walk Down Memory Lane with Northridge Elementary

Volunteer to help elementary school students, and see the world through a child's eyes!

Ever wanted to feel like a kid again? Ever felt like going back to view the world through the innocent eyes of a second-grader? That’s what I did last week, and it was like a walk down memory lane.

How was I lucky enough to have such an experience? Well, I volunteered to chaperone a class of second-grade students from on a walking field trip to the Fair Oaks Public Library! Ms. Hicks' students were delightful and full of excitement as they walked from their school to the library, passing decorative deer statues, noticing a strange bug, and avoiding sidewalk cracks (so as not to “break their mother’s back!”). It was a real treat to recall how the world looks when you are only 7-years-old.

At the library, the hum and buzz as the students were allowed to select any two books to check out made it clear how pleasurable this field trip was for them. It felt a bit like Christmas.

Can you imagine what fun such an experience would be? Do you have time to help out at Northridge, either in the classroom, in their school library, or as a field trip volunteer? If you do, please contact Joyce Daniels at 990-0546.

You, too, can take a trip down memory lane…and be a kid again! I know I was grateful for the experience, and I look forward to the next time I volunteer at Northridge!
