Mira Loma HS Science Olympians 10th in Nation

Mira Loma dominates in yet another Science Competition. Mira Loma is truly becoming the premier school for science in the region.

Once again, Mira Loma High School has demonstrated its prowess in Science, winning a top spot in the nation in the 27th Annual Science Olympiad held last weekend at the University of Madison, Wisconsin. , who traditionally has some Mira Loma 9th graders return as part of their team, in the nation.

Science Olympiad consists of middle and high school teams from across the country who compete in hands-on events designed to demonstrate problem-solving skills in a wide variety of scientific disciplines, including genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology. Science Olympiad is a team competition, teaching students to work together to solve scientific problems, and events are scored as a group. Mira Loma’s top wins were in Anatomy and Physiology and Materials and Science, coming in second in both events.

Seven thousand students and teams from each region watched as the top ten teams were called to the stage to accept their well-deserved trophies. Mira Loma’s Science Olympians were coached by teachers Mark Porter and Scott Martinez and Churchill’s team was coached by Jeffrey Jungk and Robert Sherriff. We are proud of the efforts of both of these great science teams.
