Chamber, Merchants and Runners Prepare for Fiesta Days

The two-day event beginning May 5 will feature local merchant booths, a parade, a car show and the Sunday Sun Run.

Local merchants and members are quickly putting the finishing touches on what they suspect may be their biggest spring festival yet.

Beginning Saturday, May 5, the 63rd annual Fiesta Days (formerly ) and Sun Run is expected to draw hundreds from around the Sacramento area. On Sunday, May 6 - day two of the event - runners will assemble starting at 8:05 a.m. for a 5-mile run, 2.3-mile walk and a half-mile kids run. Awards will be given in each category and age group. T-shirts will be given to all participants.

The Village Merchants Association will be working with the Chamber of Commerce this year at Fiesta Days. Its presence will be in the Chamber's booth.

"We will be handing out flyers announcing the Grand Opening of the Fair Oaks Village Farmers Market and will also be helping to sell Raffle tickets for the Chamber," said Association co-creator Nan Danford.

In addition, many merchants and businesses in the Village will be offering specials and having special events during Fiesta Days, Danford said.

On Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m., Fiesta Days kicks off with the annual spring parade down Fair Oaks Boulevard, wrapping around Village Park. Around noon a new childrens show will be performed in the Amphitheatre, featuring Mr. Bubbles and Mrs. Sparkles.

Chamber Executive Director Jan Bass-Otto expects hundreds of classic cars (1973 and older) to line both sides of the Main Street in Fair Oaks Village, Sunday, starting around 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. Last year more than 200 vehicles participated.

"The annual event is free to the public and gives the Fair Oaks and surrounding communities a fun, family event to call their own," said Bass-Otto in an e-mail. "It is an excellent opportunity for businesses to advertise by sponsoring any of the fun and exciting events held during the weekend."

A full list of events include:

  • Parade
  • Toilet Bowl Race
  • Live entertainment
  • Arts, crafts and food booths
  • Car Show
  • Sun Run, Kids Run
  • Children’s rides and games and much more.

Financial sponsorship of the general Fiesta Days, or any individual event is welcome. More information on that and a schedule of both days activities is posted on the chamber website: www.fairoakschamber.com. For further information, contact 967-2903.

Bass-Otto also explained free shuttle service will be available from Scandinavian Designs, on the southwest corner of Sunrise Blvd. and Winding Way.
