Meet the New Honorary Mayor of Fair Oaks

Kathy Jones of Kathryn Jones Custom Gardens helped raised more than $8,500 in her campaign race for the honorary title

Meet Kathy Jones. For many in the Fair Oaks area, she's a mainstay at functions and the owner of Kathryn Jones Custom Gardens. Now, Jones is the new honorary Mayor of Fair Oaks.

Jones and her friend Marlena Smith of AMP Marketing have been busy at work raising money for the Chamber and a local charitable cause. In total there were seven fundraisers, but in the end, it came down to Smith and Jones as the two to raise the most.

In total, the candidates raised more than $8,500 - half going to the Chamber, the other half going to a charitable cause of their choosing, according to Chamber executive director Jan Bass-Otto.

Jones chose to donate half of her funds toward extending a walking path in the vernal pools area of Phoenix Park. Jones took up the project on her own in early July, inviting residents to join her on nature walks through the park.

Smith chose to donate half of her proceeds to the , a nonprofit volunteer group of individuals dedicated to assisting the Sacramento Metro Fire District in American River safety and rescue.
