Mikuni Fair Oaks Still Under Construction After Fire

The Japanese restaurant may re-open in about five weeks.

Mikuni fans in Fair Oaks will have to continue to drive out of town to get their Mikuni sushi fix, at least for a few more weeks.

A fire broke out in the Japanese restaurant’s heating and air conditioning unit about 2:30 a.m. Dec. 29, Fair Oaks-Carmichael Patch reported. The fire caused severe smoke and water damage, forcing the Hazel Avenue restaurant to temporarily close for repairs.

Earlier this week, restaurant staff let fans know that construction was taking a little longer than they first anticipated.

“Mikuni Fair Oaks construction coming along good,” Mikuni staff wrote on their Facebook page. “While taking longer than anticipated, we’ll be re-open in about five weeks.”

The damage was initially estimated to be at least $50,000, according to early reports.

Until the restaurant re-opens, locals will have to make their way to the other locations, including Roseville, Elk Grove and Midtown, if they’re craving Mikuni sushi.
