Nava Wins Honorary Mayor's Race

SMUD employee raises most money for chamber.

has won the Carmichael honorary mayor's race, having raised the most money from among three candidates for the Carmichael Chamber of Commerce, chamber officials announced Tuesday.

, a critical infrstructure protection compliance specialist with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, beat out Dan Kellow of Citibank and Jeff Wagner of Wagner Plumbing. Nava raised about $3,965 for the chamber through dinners, eBay sales and other fundraisers.

"I am truly excited," Nava said. "I will make a difference... I'm ready to hit the ground running."

Nava said he will continue to hold fundraisers for community events and groups including Be Money Smart USA, which hosts the weekly at . He also said he wants to continue efforts to reopen Carmichael Pool.

"It's unacceptable that it hasn't been open for six years," Nava said.

Nava will take over as honorary mayor from , who also teaches at . Gilmour assumed the title at a chamber dinner this past January. The next chamber dinner is Jan. 6.

"He's a great guy," Gilmour said of Nava. "He's a go-getter and the (chamber) board is going in a new direction with what they want the honorary mayor's duties to be."

The next chamber mixer is a Christmas cookie swap on Dec. 14. On Dec. 20, the chamber will hold a business-to-business luncheon. Broadcaster Kitty O'Neal will be honored as Carmichael Person of the Year on Jan. 6 at the .
