Poll: Does The Village Need Another Hair Salon?

There are at least 15 hair salons operating in The Village and the promise of at least one more opening soon.

Some say Fair Oaks Village is home to as many as 10 separate hair salons. Some say there are as many as 20. And there are still others who say there are nearly 30. Regardless of how many there, how many does The Village actually need?

At present count, there are at least 15 hair salons openly operating in Fair Oaks Village:

  1. The Looking Glass

Many regard the number of salons as a welcome addition to The Village, saying the variety only encourages customers to visit the square-mile Fair Oaks nook. Others believe it won't be long before people start referring to the area as "Hair Oaks" Village, if they haven't already.

"It doesn't bother me," said William Charles Salon co-owner and Fair Oaks Village Enhancement Committee member, Charles Miller. "Everyone has their own niche and their own clientelle. It brings customers to The Village."

All the same, another salon is preparing to open its doors at 10147 Fair Oaks Boulevard. Its name: The Village Salon.

I do believe that there are a bit too many and, a few that are mentioned are gone an have been replaced. Salon Nouveau is now Runway Salon and Salon Andre has had a new owner for over 8 years. Yes everyone has their own clientele but ask a salon owner that is trying to fill stations and you may hear another story, especially because no one really thinks it is ok to take a technician from a neighboring salon... Or do they???

I would like to see a more diverse offering shops and restaurants for the salon customers to frequent before and after their hair is done. That's how we can keep business in The Village.

I think I now live near the corner of Mane Street and Hair Oaks Blvd.

Funny how you delete the main comment and leave the rest. Talk about one sided journalism. The patch needs to come to an end.

There are plenty of clients for the salons. I've worked in Fair Oaks as a hairdresser for 20 years . Started out as Dirty Nellies, then Andres Salon. For the last 7 years it has been Stefani's Hair and Skin. It doesn't make any difference to me because I have my own clients as some of the other stylists do also. The only problem I see is the parking. For every hairdresser 's car. There are 1 to 2 client cars. Diana Wakefield
