Roma's Pizza and Pasta Offers a Taste of Tradition

Owner of Carmichael pizzeria says he treats customers like guests in his own home.

Pizza, pasta and an Italian atmosphere are to be expected when dining at a pizzeria, but Roma’s Pizza and Pasta offers even more with its rich family history.

Tony Guerrera, owner of the Carmichael restaurant located on Fair Oaks Boulevard, comes from a family of restaurant owners and continues the family tradition with his very own pizzeria.

The Guerrera family’s tradition of pizzerias started in 1968 when Guerrera’s father and three uncles started Napoli Pizzeria and Italian Food in Vallejo.

In 1973, Guerrera’s uncle, Angelo, opened the first Roma’s on Franklin Boulevard in Sacramento.

“Then my uncle found out he was allergic to flour,” Guerrera said with a chuckle. “So he sold it to my dad, Joe, and my uncle, Pete.”

Guerrera’s uncle, Pete Pozzuto, still owns the Roma’s on Franklin.

In 1981, the Guerrera family opened a second Roma’s on Folsom Boulevard. This location is still owned by Guerrera’s mother, Maria.

And in 1994, Guerrera and his wife Christina opened a third Roma’s in Folsom. The restaurant was relocated to Carmichael in January.

Guerrera said he decided to relocate from Folsom to Carmichael after 16 years because the Carmichael location has more traffic.

Although the Folsom location had a more open layout, with the kitchen in plain view at the front of the restaurant, Guerrera said he still does his best to poke his head out from the kitchen and say hello to customers.

Guerrera said he is happy to see many regular customers from the Folsom location come to this location as well.

Guerrera works 50 to 60 hours a week and “does a little bit of everything” he said, but mostly he spends his time in the kitchen hand tossing fresh dough and creating pizza pies and pasta.

“My goal is when people leave here, they leave full and happy,”  Guerrera said. “I serve customers like I would serve someone at my own home.”
