Slocum House Founder Purchases Rio City Cafe in Old Sacramento
Slocum House, a Fair Oaks fine dining establishment, closed in 2011.
The founder of a former Fair Oaks institution, the Slocum House, has purchased a waterfront restaurant in Old Sacramento, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Kerry Kassis, who opened the Fair Oaks fine dining restaurant in 1986, plans to get back into the restaurant scene by upgrading and giving Rio City Cafe an "identity," according to the Bee.
Plans for the Old Sacramento restaurant include live entertainment including a harpist for the Sunday brunch crowd and an outdoor bar, as well as bringing in a smoker, where they will smoke fish in-house. Read more about the changes in store at Rio City Cafe in the Bee article here.
Kassis ran the Slocum House for 23 years before selling it in 2009. Then, in 2011, Slocum House closed after operators lost their lease for the hilltop location. Business had been slow since 2009 because of the down economy and possibly the change of ownership.
