Get Out: Weekend Planner for March 4-6

'Found Footage' Film Festival, Mardis Gras Pub Crawl, 'Risque' Art Show and More

With a weekend that starts on the only day of the year that's also a command, this March Fourth weekend has got to be something special. And we're here to help you bring that extra special element into your social life, as below is a compilation of adult-themed festivities happening around Carmichael that will surely tantalize your musical tastes and unleash your inner artist. From a “risque” art show, to a free Johnny “Guitar” Knox show, and even a Mardis Gras pub crawl, we've got the skinny on the weekend preceding Fat Tuesday.

1. Acoustic with Johnny Knox http://www.torchclub.net/cal/

Where/When: The Torch Club, 904 15th Street, Saturday, 5 - 7 p.m.

Why: Johnny “Guitar” Knox – hailed as a true blues musician who helped define the Sacramento blues scene – will be starting off Saturday night at Torch Club. He's an acoustic blues guitarist, well-known in the blues community and a steal with no cover charge.

Pricing: Free admission, but tips are more than welcome; the price of drinks and food is on you.

2. X-Rated Valentine Show http://www.skinnerhowardart.com/exhibitions.cfm

Where/When: Skinner Howard Contemporary Art Gallery, 723 S Street, Friday and Saturday, Noon to 5 p.m.

Why: This is the last weekend to experience “X-Rated Valentine Show: The Great Art of Seduction.” The gallery's website calls the show “risque (but in good taste)” includes works from nearly 20 artists. Explore, get out of your comfort zone and reflect on the torturous, yet liberating nature of sexuality. And bring a date – he or she might appreciate the adventure.

3. Mardi Gras Pub 'n' Grub Crawl http://www.oldsacramento.com/events-and-activities-detail.php?id=120

Where/When: Old Town Sacramento, Saturday starting at 5 p.m.

Why: Take a self-guided tour/pub crawl through historical Old Sacramento, fill your belly with good eats and drinks and enjoy live music. Many bars/pubs/eateries in Old Sac are participating and will have food and drink specials. One of the best parts about the venues in Old Sac is going downstairs – to find billiards, another bar and sometimes a live band. It's worth exploring.

Pricing: Cost of drinks and food.

4. Sunday Savage Sprint Series http://www.hotitalian.net/

Where/When: Hot Italian, the corner of 16th and Q Streets, Sunday, Sign-ups from 4 - 5 p.m., races start at 5 p.m.

Why: Join the indoor cycling challenge or sit back with a beverage and take in the scene. The semimonthly event runs through the end of March and is a great, physical and social way to end the weekend's festivities.

5. Found Footage Festival: Live Comedy Based on...Found Footage http://www.moviesonabigscreen.com/

Where/When: Guild Theater, 2828 35th Street, Sunday, 8 p.m.

Why: This is one of those “one-of-a-kind, can't miss” shows because it only comes around once a year. This unique event showcases footage from videos found at garage sales, thrift stores, in warehouses and even dumpsters throughout the country. Curators Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher will be on hand to host the screening and provide observations and commentary on the sure-to-be “found footage” hilarity.

Pricing: $10, seating is first come, first serve.
