Get Out Weekend Planner: Garden Glory, Animal Planet and More

Here's what's happening in and around Carmichael this weekend.

Have you been burning the midnight oil asof late?  Set aside your work and take some time out for fun. 

We know that everyone has different tastes and preferences when it comes to leisure activities, so we've come up with a mélange of things to do from active to relaxing.  Love the great outdoors?  Come to Jensen Botanical Gardens to buy some plants and take in their spectacular blooming tulips.

Why Go: Spruce up your spring garden with some festive plants:  Choose from day lilies and succulents, and don't forget to enter the raffle—you just might win a potted specimen cactus!  Proceeds go toward the garden's restoration.

2. Phantom Cat of the Chautauqua

Where/When: , Saturday at noon and 2 p.m.

Why Go: Bring your little feline lovers to this children's theater session and watch them light up as enjoy the live performance and get lost in the show—that's entertainment! 

Pricing: $7 per person.

3. Nature's Critters—Hidden in Plain Sight

Where/When: , Saturday 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Why Go: A bit of wildlife comes to us on a local level:  Meet animals whose natural camouflage helps them blend into their environments, courtesy of Mother Nature.  This family friendly encounter features birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and insects—guaranteed to delight everyone from kids to grandparents.

Where/When: Carmichael Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care, Saturday 2 to 4 p.m.

Why Go: If you adore all things western, this is the place to be.  Don your cowboy hats, boots and Levi's, and get ready to dance to the music of Jam Junction.  Want more?  You got it:  Line dancing with The Outlaws and eats and drinks are also on the agenda.  RSVP today at (916) 944-2323.

5. Second Saturday Reception

Where/When: , Saturday 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.

Why Go:  Art aficionados will ooh and ah over the works of artists from Watercolor Artists of Sacramento Horizons.  Feast on complimentary munchies, sip non-alcoholic beverages and regard Best of Show piece, "Cherries in Crystal," by Peg Lovelace.

Pricing: Free to attend; prices of art items for sale vary.
