New Medical Center Gets Smart

When Doctors Express – Fair Oaks opened its doors to customers in January, for many it marked the first time in recent memory the community would have its own comprehensive medical center. Now the medical center is introducing another first for the community.

Doctors Express is announcing a partnership with the privately owned healthcare information software developer Healthagen to offer the developer’s iTriage smartphone medical application. The application is available for all iPhone, iPod touch, Palm and Android users.

“If you can find a burger using your iPhone, why not medical services?” said Doctors Express master developer, Justin Prillwitz.

The application will give residents access to a database of medical symptoms, information about possible causes of symptoms, appropriate locations for treatment and access to Google Health personal records.

In the wake of a digital era that made myriad information is available and accessible to the masses, the question of medical privacy and safety was at the forefront of considerations Healthagen made when developing the software, Prillwitz explained.

“No names, addresses or additional personal information is required,” Prillwitz said. “Just the symptoms.”

iTriage combines healthcare information with a nationwide directory of medical provider resources, giving users the appropriate level of care.

Prillwitz explained it’s as simple as looking at the human body, pointing at what “hurts” to find out what the symptoms may indicate.

According to its website Doctors Express treats non-life threatening injuries and illnesses and provides lower cost alternative treatments. The facility includes an on-site lab, pharmacy and X-ray capabilities. The business is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekend 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
