County Officials Ready for 4th of July Weekend

American River still running higher than normal.

The spring runoff with swift water and cold temperatures continues to be higher than normal on the American River and recreational rafters and boaters should continue to be cautious when venturing into the water, Sacramento County officials said.

Because of the holiday weekend, more than usual recreational activity is expected at county regional parks facilities, which increase costs to maintain and patrol the parks. To offset these costs and to provide maximum staffing and enforcement, the county parks department is implementing temporary entrance fee increases of $8 for single vehicles and $13 for cars towing watercraft at all county parks.

This increase will not impact annual pass holders. Also during the 4th of July weekend the customary ban on alcohol will be in force.

Consumption of alcohol and possession of open containers will be prohibited on the shore and the river within the parkway between Watt and Hazel Avenues. Violations of the alcohol ban may result in citation or arrest, and the ordinance will be strictly enforced.
