Week in Review, April 2: Tax Vote, 'Every 15 Minutes', River Rescue, More

A look back on the week ending April 2.

It was a warm week for Fair Oaks, the first of many to come. With the outdoors looking so inviting, it’s understandable missing some of the news impacting the area this week. Have no fear, because here’s a look back on the week that was March 27 through April 2.

  1. – Since 2007, Fair Oaks teen, Nicole Zahner has been involved with Canine Companions for Independence, an organization specializing in the training of dogs for children and adults with disabilities. That’s not all, either. Find out all about Nicole in this edition of .
  2. – Time is running out for California lawmakers to put critical tax extensions for K-12 education on a June ballot.
  3. – Students enrolled in the San Juan Unified School District outperformed their peers statewide on fitness tests, with 49.2 percent of ninth-graders scoring a passing grade on all six physical fitness measures.
  4. – Sports writer, sits down for a candid conversation with Bella Vista track and field player, Angie Charles.
  5. – A set of separate burglary attempts have similar outcomes.
  6. – Students took part in a two-day event sponsored by California Highway Patrol and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, learning lessons about the dangers and realities of impaired driving. Be sure to check out the from the day’s events as well.
  7. – Three men have been accused by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office of preying on more than a dozen borrowers facing foreclosure, including at least one Fair Oaks couple.
  8. – Angie Charles missed more than one year competing in track and field due to two separate injuries. Now back from recovery, the record-breaking student athlete looks to reclaim her spot in the high school pole-vaulting echelons.
  9. – Teens explore the American River waterways in a makeshift barge, trouble ensues and Sacramento Metro Fire crews are there to make the rescue.
  10. – Bella Vista and Del Campo High Schools’ varsity baseball teams took home victories in their first games in Capital Valley League competition.
