Week in Review, March 21-27: Boundary Changes, Congressmen, Schools and More

A look back on a week in Fair Oaks.

Fair Oaks had another eventful week as a mix of tragedy, victory, turbulent weather and celebration kept the community busy. Let’s take a look back at the week that was March 21 – 27.

  1. – There’s nothing like a little high-speed pursuit through the neighborhood to get the week going as evidenced by a Sacramento woman who led authorities on a chase through Fair Oaks earlier this month. The woman was subsequently sentenced to six months in jail.
  2. – Final recommendations will be presented to the San Juan Unified School District Board of Education on revising current school boundaries in the community. Those interested in getting involved are invited to voice their opinions at any of the scheduled meetings being held.
  3. – Fair Oaks resident and Mira Loma High School student, Selena Li took part in the Society for Science and the Public. Li took fifth place for her new experimental liver cancer treatment.
  4. – Allen Wright has emerged from a coma he was placed in after being being critically injured in a hit-and-run more than a week ago. Wright remains in serious condition, but is responsive, encouraging his physicians outlook for the Fair Oaks teen.
  5. – Fair Oaks Patch sat down for breakfast with Congressman Dan Lungren [R- Gold River] to talk a little bit about current challenges he and his Congressional consituents face in Washington. Lungren spoke candidly about local issues concerning his Fair Oaks neighbors and constituents.
  6. – Fair Oaks Patch continues to provide new and innovative ways for the community to interact with the rest its fellow residents. Now you can upload videos from your special moments in ways not possible before. Be sure to find out how you can start today.
  7. – With the variety of schools in the Fair Oaks area, the question isn’t finding a school at all, it’s finding the one best for your child.
  8. – In the wake of media attention flooding in over remarks about Asian American students made by former UCLA and Bella Vista High School Alexandra Wallace, columnist Dante Frattini sifts through the sensationalism and addresses an issue many may be overlooking.
  9. – The state of perpetual war our country and others seem to be entrenched will have repercussions unseen for years to come. Columnist Terry Meier examines the real cost the war machine and corporate gain has on today’s youth.
  10. – It would’ve been tough to not notice the nonstop rain Fair Oaks has received over the past week, but it’s certainly accumulating in local waterways throughout the community. We grabbed a camera (and a parka) and braved the wet weather.
