Week in Review, May 28: Exchange Students, Suspicious Fire, Memorial Day and More

A look back at the week ending May 28.

What a week for Fair Oaks. The week was highlighted with new beginnings for one besieged local business, local fundraising for local schoolteachers and Memorial Day remembrances. That wasn't all that was going on in town throughout the week, either. After enjoying the three-day weekend, here's a look back at some of the stories you may have missed:

  1.  - Fair Oaks volunteers and athletes gathered to participate in some fun-filled competition at Rio Americano raising money for local public school teachers.
  2.  - The Del Campo Cougars' varsity baseball team faced off against Rocklin High School in a two-game series that proved too much for Fair Oaks team.
  3.  - The Education First Homestay Program will supervise more than 120 exchange students in the Fair Oaks area from July 6 to August 6.
  4.  - A fire that destroyed one Fair Oaks home last weekend is now being considered a crime scene.
  5.  - County budget cuts could create some big impacts for the Kiefer Boulevard facility.
  6.  - A weekly list of crime stories compiled from the Sacramento County Sheriff's watch list.
  7.  - The up-and-down nature of local gas prices doesn't seem to deter locals from summer travel.
  8.  - Local business owner Millie Finch is holding the grand opening of her newly relocated pet supply shop, boutique and spa.
  9.  - Fair Oaks Cemetery District has scheduled a number of events for the Memorial Day weekend.
  10.  - Fair Oaks track and field athletes compete for a chance at the state finals.
