Weekend Planner April 15-17: Creek Cleanup and More

Here's what's happening in and around Carmichael this weekend.

It's official:  You're on vacation and finally have some time to yourself.  Go ahead and unplug your alarm clock, eat pancakes every morning and revel in the joy of not being stuck in commuter traffic for several days.  If you've decided to stay in town, there's no shortage of things to do.  We've got artistic, sporty, environmental and food and drink outings for you.  Finish knitting that sweater for your niece with like-minded others, watch swim races, see a play and so much more—On your mark, get set, go!

Where/When: , Friday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: Can't put down the knitting needles?   Come out and meet fellow knitters, crocheters and needleworkers of all ages and levels, and work on your projects together.  Bring snacks to share and get ready for some crafty fun!

Where/When: Del Campo High School, Friday 3:30 p.m.

Why Go: Come on out and cheer on our Cougar girls as they splish, splash and swim up a storm against the Broncos.  Who knows?  You may witness the next Summer Sanders or Natalie Coughlin in the making!

Where/When: , Saturday 12 p.m.

Why Go: Participate in this annual event and do your bit for the environment.  Help clean up our creeks and you'll be rewarded with a complimentary hot dog lunch and are encouraged to peruse the educational booths afterward.  Call (916) 482-7826 for creek sites and general information.  Don't forget your work gloves, comfortable pants and appropriate outdoor shoes.

4. Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily

Where/When: , Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m.

Why Go: Everyone loves a good Who-Done-It and this mystery will entertain you with Sherlock and his trusty partner, Watson, as they set out on solving a case for actress Lillie Langtry involving "blackmail, some missing jewels and the royal family."

Pricing: $16-$18.

5. Happy Hour

Where/When: , Daily 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Why Go:  Celebrate the end of tax season with your pals or significant other and enjoy $4.95 wine specials and cocktails, along with beers on tap and in the bottle.  Supplement those lovely libations with some $4.95 snacks like bruschetta and baked polenta and make a meal of it.
