Schweitzer Family Reading Night and high school sports.

Oct. 6

1. The PTA is sponsoring Family Reading Night from 6:30-8 p.m. The event is free to all families. Tony Asaro and the mascot Dinger from the will be here from 6:30-7 p.m. to read a story and Dinger will be available for pictures. From 7-8 (in 15 increments), the children will be able to hear up to four different stories being read to them. The PTA will also be holding a fundraiser BBQ from 5:30-6:30 prior to Family Reading Night.  You will be able to get a hot dog, chips and drink for $3. 2. In high school sports, the team (1-4) looks to follow up its first win of the season and gets the football weekend started early when it hosts at 7:30 p.m. The and boys soccer teams meet up this afternoon. The and girls tennis squads play each other at 3:30 p.m. at El Camino. The team (13-5) is at Oak Ridge of El Dorado Hills at 4:30 p.m. The (6-3-2) is at Antelope at 6:30 p.m. The girls volleyball team (11-6) hosts Delta of Clarksburg at 6 p.m.

1. The Kiwanis Club of Carmichael meets each Wednesday at 7 a.m. at the Elks Lodge at 5631 Cypress Ave. in Carmichael. Come find out about all the wonderful things the Kiwanis Club is up to.

2. Oenophiles are invited to come out the first Wednesday of each month to sample wines at Bella Bru Cafe at 5 p.m. and have a great time.

3. In high school sports, the El Camino girls volleyball team (19-1) looks to add to its 11-match winning streak when it hosts Cordova. The Eagles water polo teams are at Antelope. The Eagles boys squad (14-3) goes first, followed by the girls (12-5). The Jesuit soccer team (13-1-3) looks to get back on the winning side when it hosts Oak Ridge of El Dorado Hills. Jesuit tied Sheldon of Elk Grove on Monday. The Marauders cross country team has a league meet at Granite Regional Park at 4 p.m. Check back later for an article on the team. The Jesuit water polo team is at Ponderosa of Shingle Springs at 3:45 p.m. The Mira Loma water polo teams head to West Sacramento to face River City. The Matadors boys squad (1-6) goes first at 3:45 p.m., followed by the girls (7-6) at 4:45 p.m. The Rio Americano girls volleyball team (18-7) hosts Whitney of Rocklin at 6:15 p.m. The Raiders water polo teams are at Whitney. The boys go first followed by the girls.

1. It's a busy day at the Carmichael Library, with three events at 6:30 p.m.

2. In high school sports, the El Camino boys soccer team (10-1) is at Whitney of Rocklin at 4 p.m. Mira Loma (1-5-2) and Rio Americano (5-3-2) face off in boys soccer at Rio at 4 p.m. The Matadors and Raiders also face off in girls tennis at 3:30 p.m. at at Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa, 1220 Arden Hills Ln, Sacramento.
