Race for the STARS

Whether you’re a serious runner or a recreational walker, there is a place for you in the Race for the STARS on Sunday, April 27, as participants run and walk in support educational excellence.

The 5K run as well and walk will start at 8:30 a.m. at Rio Americano High School, will wind along the American River, and will end at Rio Americano High School, 4540 American River Drive in Sacramento. ChronoTrack chip timing will be provided by Capital Road Race Management.

Kids fun runs will start at 8 a.m. and will include half mile and quarter mile races, with Dinger of the River Cats entertaining participants.

Immediately following the race, participants and the community are invited to attend a family festival that includes refreshments, live music, and lots of fun activities for all ages. In addition the boys and girls bikes being raffled by Sacramento County Sheriff Youth Services and sport activities by Sheriff’s Activities League & SCIP, activities will include karate demonstrations, a climbing wall, a jump house, facepainting and art projects, dance, sport activities, vendor giveways, and more.

Awards will be given for the top male and female winner in each age category as well as an award for overall and masters. All participants in the kids races will receive a participant’s medal and race t-shirt.

The race is organized by the San Juan Education Foundation, an independent non-profit organization, to raise money for direct to teachers grants in science, technology, arts, and literacy in SJUSD schools. Schools can raise money directly with $10 of each adult registration fee and $5 of each student and child registration going to the SJUSD school of the participant’s choice.
