Carmichael Community Event Banners Removed

Removal followed complaint.

Until a few weeks ago, many organizations were putting up banners on the fence by Denny's at the intersection of Fair Oaks Boulevard and Manzanita Avenue.

Someone complained to the county that this was against code. It was and the county asked the property owner to have them removed.

Instead of tearing them down, the property manager called each organization and asked that they be taken down. This allowed them to be reused in other locations rather than becoming trash.

Kudos to the property manager. The other day, I saw that the banners are all now removed.

My question though is did you use these to find organizations and events in the community?

How will you find the things to do now? The catalogs and websites? A community newspaper? Patch event calendar? The community booth at the ?

Please share your ideas on where to go to get good local community information.

Why do people have to be such jerks? Are their lives so misrable that they must make others lives that way too?

I look at the Carmichael Park Marquee- on Patch would be great too. That intersection has alot of accidents and the signs may have been distracting. I have a GS troop and it would be great to have a location where everyone could reference for information on community events.

Jacqueline: Your girl scout troop is exactly why I asked the question. What kind of a location would help you? A physical one like at the farmers market? An electronic one like the calendar in the Patch? An old fashoned newspaper ad? There were at least a half dozen signs up there all the time with turnover. Where else do you go for info?

Denna: I understand the sentiment. I also understand that we want to improve the appearance of Carmichael and esp. Fair Oaks Blvd. I would call this one of the unintended consequences and my question is how do we make it work?
