Community Corner

Veterans need to write their Senator to pass S. 893.

As a supporter of DAV (Disabled American Veterans), I write to ask for your endorsement of an important bill that will affect
the quality of life of wounded, injured and ill veterans.

Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders introduced S.893 on May 8, 2013.  The bill was favorably reported to the Senate on September 4, 2013.  This bill would authorize cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) for disabled veterans in receipt of compensation and pension, and for survivors of veterans who died from service-incurred disabilities and are in receipt of Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC).  The bill would provide for an increase, effective December 1, 2013, that would be linked to the level of increase to COLAs authorized for Social Security
beneficiaries.

Receipt of annual COLA increments aids wounded, injured and ill veterans, their families, and their survivors to help maintain the value of their VA
payments against uncontrollable inflation.  Without COLAs, these individuals, who sacrificed their own health and their family life for the good of our nation, would not be able to maintain a quality of life in their later years.

I ask that you cosponsor this important bill and use your influence to bring this bill to the floor of the Senate for a final vote as soon as
possible.

Please advise me of your intentions with respect to this bill.

Sincerely,

Fox Muldeer
