Carmichael Girl Among Teens Killed in Auburn Car Crash

The two girls killed in the crash were not wearing their seat belts, according to California Highway Patrol authorities.

The two teens killed when the SUV they were riding in ran off the road have been identified as Morgan Helman, 17, of Carmichael and Vivian Conner, 13, of Newcastle.

The accident occurred Sunday around 7:35 p.m., when the driver, a 17-year-old male from Auburn, lost control of the 2002 Chevy Tahoe southbound on Auburn Folsom Road, according to California Highway Patrol officials. The boy was driving at an unknown rate of speed, according to CHP officials.

The driver was transporting the two girls and three other passengers -- all teenagers. According to a CHP report, for reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of his vehicle and traveled off the roadway, causing the front-end of the Chevy to collide with a guardrail and metal fence. The Chevy subsequently traveled through the fence and overturned onto its right side in an open area.

CHP officials believe Helman and Conner were seated in the right rear seats and not wearing their seatbelts. The girls sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene by firefighter personnel, according to the report. One additional 16-year-old female passenger was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center by AMR Ambulance with moderate injuries. The other occupants of the vehicle were released to their parents at the scene, according to the report.

CHP officials noted the driver's license check determined the 17-year-old male was driving with a provisional license, restricting him from transporting passengers under the age of 20 years of age.
