DUI Checkpoint Set for Aug. 24 in Unincorporated Sac County

CHP will conduct the sobriety checkpoint somewhere in unincorporated Sacramento County.

A DUI checkpoint will be held somewhere within the unincorporated area of Sacramento County on Saturday, Aug. 24. The checkpoint will run from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

From the California Highway Patrol:

The East Sacramento Area office of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, August 24, 2013, somewhere within the unincorporated area of Sacramento County.

“All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by intoxicated drivers,” said Lt. Rich Desmond, East Sacramento Area Commander.

The CHP’s goal is to ensure the safe passage of each and every motorist by targeting roads where there is a high frequency of drunk driving. A sobriety checkpoint is a proven effective tool for achieving this goal and is designed to augment existing patrol operations.

“By publicizing our efforts we believe that we can deter motorists from drinking and driving,” Lt. Desmond said.Lt. Desmond emphasized, “traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs can expect to be arrested. Our objective is to send a clear message to those considering mixing alcohol and/or drugs with driving. The CHP will be keeping a close eye out for you.”

NOTE: Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
