Police Log: Elder Abuse, Drugs and Guns at Home

Daughter, 56, Assaults Elderly Mother

A 56-year-old Orangevale woman was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse after allegedly assaulting her 81-year-old, live-in mother.

On the 8500 block of Almaz Avenue, on Oct. 4 at 9:10 p.m., Janet Jones allegedly came into her mother's room while she was in bed, started arguing with her and began "jumping on top of her and holding her down," according to the Sacramento Sheriff's Department logs.

The mother tried calling 911 with a call phone she had in hand, but instead her daughter allegedly wrestled it from her hand. The mother was then "punched numerous times" by her daughter and may have been hit with a TV remote. The mother was able to get out of bed and flee to a neighbor's house, where she called 911. She suffered visible injuries and complained of pain.

Jones was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse and destroying a phone.

Custody Battle Gets Ugly

A woman in a custody battle with her former husband, who has a restraining order against her and sole custody of the child until a future court hearing, allegedly showed up at his house uninvited and kneed his car's driver's side door. On the 4800 block of Boyd Drive, at 4 p.m. On Oct. 5, the 23-year-old woman, "eventually left in an unknown van with unknown persons," according to the Sheriff's Departmement logs. Her former husband is 50.

Warrant Reveals Drugs and Guns

A search warrant served at 5813 Beech Avenue revealed a small drug operation and resulted in the arrest of a 58-year-old man. Ricky Watkins, 58, was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of controlled substance, receiving stolen property, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.

The warrant was served Oct. 5 at 6 a.m., and revealed "an off-white crystal like substance (methamphetamine), processed marijuana, packaging, scales, indicia, one pay owe sheet, numerous live ammunition (in excess of 200 rounds), and 15 firearms. One of the firearms were confirmed stolen," according to the Sheriff's Department logs.
