Suspect Allegedly Linked to 2012 Sexual Assault Near ARC

Ian Clark, 20, is charged with "robbery, sexual battery, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault with the intent to commit rape," according to a press release.

Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with a July 2012 sexual assault that happened on a trail near American River College.

Ian Clark, 20, was already in custody at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center for unrelated charges of auto theft and attempted evasion of a deputy.

He was linked to the crime by evidence found at the scene, according to a press release from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff’s detectives have made an arrest in connection with the sexual assault of a woman that occurred last summer near American River College. Ian Clark, 20, was arrested at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center, where he was already in custody since being arrested on July 27th, 2012, for unrelated charges of auto theft and felony evasion of a peace officer. 

On July 16, 2012 shortly before 7:00 p.m., a female adult was walking along the Arcade Creek nature trail near American River College. She was grabbed from behind and choked by a man who held a knife to her and conveyed the intention to rape and kill her. The victim struggled with the suspect, and was able to break away from him. The suspect then fled the scene on a bicycle.

Evidence recovered from the scene ultimately linked the suspect, Clark, to the attack. Clark now faces additional felony charges including robbery, sexual battery, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault with the intent to commit rape.
