Suspect Arrested in March Fatal Hit and Run in Carmichael
CHP says Steve Hernandez killed one man, injured another on Winding Way.
A Sacramento man who killed one man with his vehicle and seriously injured another in March on Winding Way in Carmichael was arrested Sunday, a California Highway Patrol officer announced.
Steve Hernandez, 38, was arrested at 5:15 p.m. in connection with a March 22 hit and run incident where Hernandez struck Paul Pellandini, 57, and William Collins, 54, on Winding west of Carnegie Way, CHP Officer Lizz Dutton said. Pellandini died at the scene and Collins was treated for his injuries at Mercy San Juan Medical Center.
On Sunday, Sacramento Police Department were investigating a stolen vehicle and contacted Hernandez, where he was arrested for an outstanding warrant for
a hit and run traffic collision from a 2010 incident in North Sacramento, Dutton said. CHP investigators added the following charges: misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, felony hit and run and driving on a suspended drivers license.

This is the second major hit and run case in Carmichael in the past four months. after he and his girlfriend Gemily West were struck by a motorist on July 16 at Garfield Avenue and Engle Road. The driver, Paul Walden, remains in jail.
