A family has been displaced after a two-alarm fire burns through their home at 1639 Spring St. Monday morning.

The Mountain View Fire Department responded to the fire after multiple reports from neighbors at 9:25 a.m., according to spokewoman Jaime Garrett.

"The house is uninhabitable," said Garrett.

Firefighter quickly began to battle flames and heavy smoke. Firefighters used a chainsaw to remove panels from the garage to gain access to that area of the dwelling. When firefighters finally got the door opened, there appeared to be a lot of cinched clothes and other debris. Some flames were also visible, but quickly extinguished.

Palo Alto responded with mutual aid both on scene and also by provided extra support at Mountain View fire stations since all five engines, including the truck and rescue, responded to the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Garrett wanted to highlight that the home had the correct window gates, which opened outward.

According to neighbors, a large extended family lived in the home. Garrett did not readily know how many people had been evacuated. The family will be assisted by the Red Cross to find temporary housing.
