Unexplained Backyard Fire Results in Damage to Carmichael Triplex

One unit suffered fire, smoke and water damage; the other two units suffered light smoke damage only, officials say.

Sacramento Metro Fire crews responded to a fire at the 5700 block of Ivy Town Lane in Carmichael Sunday around 5 a.m.

According to an official's report, crews arrived to find the fire, which appeared to have started with a fence and tree in the yard, extending to the eaves and attic of one unit in a triplex. Crews worked to evacuate residents of all three homes while other firefighters extinguished the fire, shut off utilities, and ventilated the structure, according to Metro Fire spokeswoman Michelle Eidam.

Crews were able to hold the fire to just one unit. That unit suffered some fire, smoke and water damage, according to the report, while the remaining two units suffered light smoke damage only. The report indicates that no firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

According to the report, the fire incurred $40,000 to $50,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this point.

I am curious as to why it is vacant and fenced off.

*gasp!!* Tacky chain link fence? There go the property values! Chain link fence aroundRead More vacant/undeveloped land is usually an indicator of some County ordinance to secure the land for public safety. I'd buy the land and for the pure entertainment factor put mock working oil pump jacks on the land. Just to see what people do. :-p

Thanks for the kind words Josh and for doing a good job of taking over Carmichael among other PatchRead More towns. I'll always remember promoting Patch around the area and the weird looks we/you got out at the multi-chamber mixer. Best of luck in Alaska and say hi to the eskimos for me.
