Woman Hanging From Bluff Saved by Firefighter's Vertical Rescue

Sacramento Metro Fire District responds.

Just before 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sacramento Metro Fire crews responded to 8049 Ravinia Ct. for a report that someone was trapped on the side of the bluffs to the rear of that address.

Multiple units, including Sacramento Metro's Heavy Rescue, responded.  Once on the scene, crews found an adult female clinging to the bluff.  A firefighter was lowered down 25 feet from the top as quickly as possible to secure her from falling using a rope system.

Once down to her, he placed her in a harness, then both were lowered approximately 80 feet to the American River’s edge where she was placed into our boat.

She was then taken to the south side of the river for a medical evaluation by one of Sac Metro's ambulance crews.

It was determined that the woman was uninjured and she was released to law enforcement. This rescue took Metro Fire crews 53 minutes from start to finish to complete successfully.
