Incumbent County Supervisors Best Occupy Challengers in District Race

Two Occupy candidates with Carmichael ties lost to Sacramento County supervisor incumbents in Tuesday's election.

In District 3, which includes Carmichael and Fair Oaks, incumbent Susan Peters fended off challenger Jeff Kravitz 65 percent to 35 percent.

"No one has beaten an (supervisor) incumbent in 40 years," Kravitz said from his law office on Fair Oaks Boulevard in Carmichael, adding that he believes he was outspent 8-1. "Unfortunately we fell short but we'll keep fighting."

"Carmichael has no central government, it has a fiefdom," he added. "The people here deserve a good government."

Peters could not be reached for comment late Tuesday.

In District 4, incumbent Roberta MacGlashan won with 49 percent, challenger Julie Sams had 27 percent and Gary Blenner, a teacher at Rio Americano High School, had 23 percent.

"It's a good sign that a majority of people in the fourth district voted for someone other than the incumbent," Blenner said at Kravitz's law office. "There is a desire for change."
