Physician Sentenced in Medicare Scam at Carmichael Clinic

Bee: Physician was found guilty of fraudulent billings.

A Santa Barbara physician has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison for her role in a Medicare fraud scam that involved a Carmichael health-care clinic, The Sacramento Bee is reporting.

Lana Le Chabrier, 64, was found guilty by a jury on July 8, 2011. She was sentenced Thursday in Sacramento by U.S. District Judge Morrison England Jr., The Bee reported.

La Chabrier was found to have abused her position of trust as a physician at clinics in Carmichael and Sacramento and was responsible for just under $1 million in fraudulent billings submitted to Medicare and more than $400,000 in payments made on false claims, The Bee reported.
