Boys Basketball Playoffs: Rio Americano Knocked Out

Jesuit, Victory Christian and Sac. Adventist advance, Del Campo upset; girls in action tonight.

The team squeaked into the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs with a win over rival on the last day of the regular season and carried a losing record (12-14) going into Wednesday's opening round game at in Fair Oaks.

The Raiders' stay was short-lived as they ran into a deep Broncos squad, who ran away with a 71-50 win in Division II.

Junior Zach Suarez led Rio with 13 points and senior Jude Aka added 10. Bella Vista junior guard Ahmad Smith led all scorers with 15 points while junior Tyler Berkness had 13.

"We made them play our game and they didn't like that," Broncos coach Dave Gonzalez said. "Our team played some great defense and we made shots when we needed to."

In other Carmichael-area boys playoff action Wednesday, won big over Nevada Union of Grass Valley in D-I 68-44.

Marauders senior guard Bryce Pressley led all scorers with 19 points and Parker Uu had 12. Ian Davis led the Miners with 13 points.

Jesuit next hosts Kennedy in Carmichael on Friday.

In D-II, was upset at home by Yuba City 74-65.

The Cougars were led by senior captains Johnny Hayes and David Saghatelyan with 16 points each but that equaled the output by Honkers senior guard Matt Hayes, who finished with 32 on the night.

In small school D-VI, Victory Christian topped Wilton Christian 68-56 behind 33 points from senior co-captain Robby Maxey. The Vikings next host Brookside Christian of Stockton on Friday.

Sacramento Adventist won going away over Trinity Prep of Napa 69-37 and now host Lodi Academy on Saturday.

In tonight, hosts River City of West Sacramento in Division II.

In Division VI, hosts Faith Christian of Yuba City and is at Wilton Christian.
