Churchill Student Seeks Donations for DC Trip

Rashel Jacobo selected for Junior National Young Leaders Conference.

A student is seeking community donations to pay for a trip to the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, DC.

Rashel Jacobo, 11, was selected by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council to attend the conference this summer after she was nominated by her teacher Krista Filger.

Tuition for the event is $1,950, not including airfare, which is about $1,100, said John Hoffman, who is coordinating fundraising efforts for Rashel, who is in the sixth grade.

"I would like to attend this conference because it will teach me to be a good leader and inspire me to do great things," Jacobo wrote in a letter, adding that her goal is to become a doctor. "This is an opportunity of a lifetime for me."

Jacobo's mother Lucia "Lucy" Gomez works at New World Cleaners on Arden Way and Rashel's father holds jobs at two , one of which is in Carmichael at the 'Y', Hoffman said.

"I welcome and appreciate any and all assistance in supporting this young lady to experience this wonderful opportunity," he said.
