Del Campo Football Prepares for Conference Championship Against Rio Linda Friday

The Cougars have rebounded from a 1-2 start to win their last six games straight.

The Del Campo Cougars have rallied from a rocky start to win their past six games, paving the way for them to meet Rio Linda Friday night for the Capital Valley Conference championship.

The Cougars (7-2, 4-0) have come a long way from their 1-2 start, which included a nail-biting defeat at the hands of Elk Grove's 8-1 Thundering Herd, traveling to Rio Linda (8-1, 4-0) to play the No. 19 Knights.

The Sacramento Bee reports that part of what has catapulted Del Campo's surge into the championship has to do with a lean, mean offensive line. According to The Bee's Bill Patterson, behind that line, players like senior quarterback Derek Rodigo and senior runningback Josh Blumgold have been able to exploit defenses, a strategy the reporter expects the team to implement Friday night.

"With so many big, strong and quick linemen, the Cougars have simply beaten up teams running the ball," The Bee reported.

A win tonight would bring Cougars' coach Mike Dimino his sixth league championship in his 10 years at Del Campo.
