DCHS Teacher Named SJUSD Teacher of Year

A math teacher has been named as one of two Teachers of the Year by the , officials have announced.

Kevin Barone was named Tuesday as one of the 2013 Teachers of the Year for San Juan Unified, which serves Carmichael and Fair Oaks among other local towns.

Barone has spent his entire 19-year teaching career at Del Campo, district officials said.

District officials received many nominations for the Teacher of the Year recognition and the selection process included nominations from peers, administrators, students and the community, according to a district news release. The process also included a review of the applications, interviews and site visits. 

Karen Lack, an English learner instructional specialist at Lichen and Woodside K-8 schools in Citrus Heights is the other district Teacher of the Year, district officials said.

Barone and Lack’s names will be forwarded to the Sacramento County of Education for the countywide Teacher of the Year program in the fall.

The SJUSD Board of Education will formally recognize these two teachers at its Aug. 28 board meeting.
