Boots, Polka Dots Hot for Back to School

Local retailers dish up fall fashion trends.

When it comes to fashion trends, girls seem to get more variety, selection and fun, while boys get the shorter end of the stick. This fall seems to be no exception. Patch talked to local retailers about the “in” items for both sexes.

For the ladies, short cowboy boots paired with cotton, off-the-shoulder dresses are a hot outfit, said Tasha Irby, manager at in Fair Oaks. And skinny jeans just keep hanging on, paired with tops that empasize shine details, she said. Also, sweaters that emphasize open stitch and crochet styles are hot sellers, as are polka dot and animal prints.

Jeggings are still in, with a focus on velvet color and printed styles, and Hello Kitty apparel is always popular with the girls and young women, Irby said.

Over at Crossroads Trading Co. in Roseville, Store Manager Jessica Pelley said maxi skirts are popular, along with printed denim and anything jewel toned. Sixties-style coats are coming back, and riding boots, shift dresses, tailored blazers and Oxford-style shoes are hot items, she said.

For the guys, messenger bags, colored jeans, laced-up boots and fitted collar shirts are trendy, Pelley said.

Team sports apparel never goes out of style, though the teams of choice may be more or less popular depending on their most recent season. Giants and 49ers clothing are hot over at TJ Maxx, Irby said, and striped V neck T-shirts, henley knits paired with cargo shorts and striped fleece are all in, she said.
