The decision comes on the heels of Ginter's decision to terminate Mahaffey following the former coach's decision to cut his starting wide receiver Guillermo Salazar. Salazar, who plays three sports and reportedly may be in line for a baseball scholarship to miss Rio's Oct. 13 football game for baseball recruitment, prompting the coach's decision to cut him. The coach's decision prompted the every varsity player to walk off the squad.

There is no word yet whether the two assistant coaches who were terminated along with Mahaffey will also be replaced.
