Jesuit Junior Marauders Football Announces New Coach, Key Summer Events

The football program will be assisted by 's new varsity football coach during summer events and during the season, program officials announced.

Scott Brownholtz, the JJM president, welcomed new varsity head football coach . Jesuit athletics director Chris Fahey on May 27. Blanton spent the past 14 seasons as head football coach at St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School in Vallejo, Calif.

“We are very excited to welcome Coach Blanton,” Brownholtz said. “He has a track record of success both on the football field and in developing young men to achieve their potential.”

Blanton is a graduate of De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif. where he played football and began his coaching career. Hired by SPSV in 1998, Blanton led the Bruins to seven North Coast Section playoff appearances and three Bay Shore Athletic League titles. He was named Bay Shore Athletic League Coach of the Year in 2004, 2006, and 2007.

“Coach Blanton understands our mission to train our youngsters to be excellent football players and also 'Men for Others' in the Jesuit tradition,” added Brownholtz.

The Junior Marauders held an equipment fitting for players on June 24.  Registration is also open on the organization’s website, www.jesuitjrmarauders.com.

JJM will conduct voluntary fitness sessions for players on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through July 13.

“These sessions are free for players who have registered for the season. It’s a great way for our players to work on fitness over the summer, have fun, and to
train with our experienced coaching staff,” said Brownholtz.

The sessions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

Jennifer Hall, vice president of administration, announced that JJM would continue its participation in the Play It Safe Concussion Care Program.

“We were the only area youth football program involved with Play It Safe last season,” Hall said. “We are 100 percent committed to protecting the safety of our young athletes.”

JJM will begin practice on Aug. 6 and will open the 2012 campaign on Sept. 1.
