Rio Americano Fashion Show 'Time of My Life'

High school fundraiser shows off students' fun side.

Rio Americano High School seniors took guests on a fun fashion trip on Sunday at the Carmichael-area school's annual fashion show.

In eight scenes, students took turns on the catwalk wearing fashions donated by local and national retailers including Madam Butterfly, Jessica McClintock and Old Navy.

The overall them was "The Time of My Life" and there were scene themes including country and Alice in Wonderland and locales such as Hawaii and London.

The show, held in Rio's gym, is a fundraiser for the PTSA.

"What we're proud of is the legacy of the fashion show," said Tracie Reed, the show committee chairwoman. "Some guests come back who have had other daughters and granddaughters in the show and some are here for the first time."

Student practiced for about two weeks before the show. Many juggled academics and athletics with practice.

"Sometimes, practices seemed long but it was all worth it in the end," said Jonny Lanthier. "We had fun."

The fashion show was produced, directed and choreographed by Lisa Schwan, a Rio alum who has also directed shows for , St. Francis and Loretto high schools.

Having modeled in shows at the schools listed above, I can tell you it is an enjoyable experience (for the audience as well). Models get to show off their personalities. The music is the fist-pumping beats you would hear on pop radio and Sunday's songs included "Tonight is the Night", "Mr Saxobeat" and "Love You Like a Love Song."
