San Juan Superintendent Placed on Leave as Complaints Against Him Are Investigated

Superintendent Glynn Thompson faces nine complaints with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing.

The San Juan Unified School District superintendent has been placed on paid administrative leave as employment complaints against him are investigated, officials said.

The San Juan Unified school board voted 4-0 in closed session, with one member recusing himself, to place Superintendent Glynn Thompson on leave. Thompson faces nine complaints with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the district said.

“The Board takes this action to protect the District, the superintendent, the complainants and the process," the school board said in a joint statement. "This action is in no way an indication of wrong-doing. We would ask that our teachers, staff and administrators maintain their focus on serving students and families while we work to resolve this issue as quickly as possible."

Thompson is expected to remain on leave until the investigation into him is complete; it began last week.

The Sacramento Bee reported that the complaints against Thompson allege gender-discrimination, harassment and retaliation toward female employees.
