Del Campo Alum Dusty Baker in Running for KCRA Award

Dusty Baker attended Del Campo and American River College before being drafted by the Atlanta Braves.

Del Campo High School graduate and former San Francisco Giants manager Dusty Baker is again in the running for an award from a local TV station's viewing audience.

Baker is currently in fourth place in the KCRA A-List viewer awards for "Best Locally Grown Pro Athlete," trailing Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, Olympic gold medalist Summer Sanders and UFC fighter Urijah Faber.

Baker played major league baseball for 19 years, won a World Series ring and earned accolades managing the Giants and other teams

According to the Sacramento Sports Hall of Fame, he was a multi-sport athlete at Del Campo.

"At Del Campo, Dusty excelled at football, basketball, baseball and track," the Hall of Fame wrote. "Dusty and his siblings were the only black students at Del Campo and faced many difficult times, but utilized sports as an outlet."
