"For the last 28 years, the American Cancer Society has been cultivating and developing communities to fight back against cancer through our signature activity, Relay For Life," Amy Jones, a senior Relay manager, wrote in an e-mailed statement. "We have learned so much though our endeavors. Sometimes, we learn that it might be time to take an indefinite pause in a community, and this letter brings news that we have made the difficult decision to sunset the Relay For Life of Carmichael for the time being, due to a low number of event participants."
