Volunteers Collecting Used Eyeglasses to Help Developing Countries

Those with used eyeglasses can donate them at the Sacramento County Service Center at 5229B Hazel Avenue.

Sacramento County is teaming with Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers (LERCs) and other volunteers in collecting used eyeglasses to help people in developing countries.

The county is inviting those wtih eyeglasses they no longer need to donate them at the Sacramento County East Area Service Center located at 5229B Hazel Avenue (at Madison Ave.). The office hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Look for the Lions box in our lobby.

The Lions eyeglass recycling project accepts prescription and reading glasses, sunglasses and plastic and metal frames. Children's glasses are especially needed.

Throughout the year, Lions, and other volunteers collect used eyeglasses and deliver them to regional centers. LERC volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses. Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.
