The way the Lottery was sold to voters 30 years ago after a couple of failed attempts at approvalRead More was the promise that a % of funds collected would go to fund schools. They tricked us all at the time by not making it clear that they would be "instead of" funds as opposed to "additional funds." The more that the Lottery contributes to schools equal amounts are diverted from preexisting funding and used for stuff like High Speed Rail and other dumb stuff. If voters had gotten what they approved there would be no shortage of school funding today.

THANK YOU Tom...!! Look you F'ing Morons... Right from the first day..."the lottery" hasRead More been the text book definition of a shell game. LOOK at the condition of our public schools. They have fallen further from grace with each passing year. Check back in 30 years and the lottery ... ASSUMING There Still Is A Public School System...will be our schools sole source of income. Across the world, "Americans" tend to be the most politically stupid and gullible of any citizen of any country. Wake The F Up already. "private" .....that means FOR PROFIT schools have been riding the coat tails of the lottery. THAT is what capitalism is all about...The Worship Of PROFIT. For the first time in history, the USA sends just as much Private Security personnel into a battle is it does Military Soldiers. Speak up now against this B.S. while you still can. God Bless

Tom, I dont think we have "tenure" in the classic sense... nor is our system a permanentRead More job, but the situation you described, but for all but the most dogged administrators, is just that. why SHOULD it take 3.5 years if a employer doesnt want the services of an employee any more.....? Most principals just dont bother rocking the boat, and let teachers be...then shuffle them off somewhere else...

@Carson W. My 'friend' was not a jock, the principal was. My 'friend' may have not been the bestRead More teacher in the world, but he wasn't the ogre the administration made him out to be. My 'friend' worked with one teacher for many years that admitted he was lazy, came in right before the kids and couldn't wait to get out the door at 3 pm. Yet he was not targeted. The bottom line is that is no objectivity.

it is like that in any profession though isnt it..? My point is this. when an employer basicallyRead More CANT fire someone... that is good for the people who DONT deserve it (maybe your friend)..but also awesome for the people who do need a good firing. and in education throwing kids onto that altar of sacrifice for the teacher's sake is unacceptable.

We have to make people aware that our State is run by public employee Unions and we need court casesRead More like today which ruled that the California Teacher Tenure rules are unconstitutional so that we can change laws and vote people out of office who do not represent the interests of the public who pay the taxes.

Something that is interesting to note is that high school grads are going to four year universitiesRead More and studying subject that isn't marketable. While on the other hand you have people getting vocational training at vocational schools that essentially guarantees them a job out of school that will make them 'x' amount of money. So it isn't that college degrees are worthless, some are. It is also said that sometimes trade school is the right choice! It's all relative to the school, subject and teacher, but My son gets the perfect amount of homeworkRead More in most cases and is doing very well in school. Kid works ahead a week or 2 at times. I totally disagree with homework not having a difference in schoolwork for 3 reasons. 1. Homework re-enforces supervise work done at school. 2. practice makes perfect. 3. Homework to a certain extent teaches kids responsibilty and time management skill they might not learn otherwise.
Natalie Giorgi of Carmichael recently died after taking a bite of a dessert made with peanut butter. She had a peanut allergy.

Not sure why schools and camps are not equipped with epi pens. It's a shame that school districtsRead More are taking this stance.
Daneece July 31, 2013 at 05:48 pm
How important are peanuts to school lunches in comparison to the life of a child? I think that SanRead More Juan Unified should follow Elk Groves example.
Vivian August 1, 2013 at 06:41 am
Yes, San Juan should discontinue serving peanuts in all school meals. Further, anything containingRead More peanuts or peanut oil should be eliminated also. Who would know, that the peanut shock could happen THAT fast - the loss of one child is too many. I doubt that having EPI pens available is an answer. They would probably be secured or locked up far away from where they were needed.

I would hardly call a CA rank of 221 and a college readiness of 31.9 rating good news. DelRead More Campo--wow.

Your article is incorrect - Rio Americano another San Juan school is ranked above Mira Loma at 218.
